Preface: This was a card sorting assignment for the UXD Master’s program at Kent State University: Fall 2023 INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE I (UXD-60101-004)

Assignment – Card Sorting

This assignment was to learn how to perform a card sorting exercise and discover research insights into how a site’s intended users think about and group the features and capabilities provided by the site.

At least 3 people were to participate in an open card sort activity.  Participants were asked to look at a set of labeled cards and have them sort the cards into similar groups.

The cards were as follows:

  1. Read reviews about local contractors
  2. Write and submit a review
  3. View a list of contractors
  4. View a list of reviewers
  5. Read about how to choose a contractor
  6. Become a reviewer
  7. List yourself as a contractor

When participants were done grouping the cards, they were asked what they would name each group.

This assignment was graded on:

  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct and report the results of a card sort exercise.
  • Interpretation of the card sort results are clear yet brief.
  • Clearly describe the limits of the data and therefore of your conclusions.
  • Craft: The proposal is free of spelling and grammar errors, and makes for a professional appearance and presentation.

I completed my card sort with 5 eager and willing participants.
